Search

Knowledge Management (KM) is the set of strategies and processes designed to discover, identify, capture, structure, value, leverage, and share an organization's intellectual assets to enhance its performance and competitiveness.

Search and Discovery are the linchpins of Knowledge Management in PLM applications. Search is the ability to find information that is known (or assumed to be known) and needs to be located. Discovery is the ability to locate information that may not be known or is buried so deeply in the organization that it has been lost.

Benefits

Key components of KM systems are the ability to search, extract and organize information from disparate sources in such a way the users can leverage that information to enhance productivity and fuel innovation. Advanced techniques made available are:

  • Automatic information aggregation (Crawling)
  • Taxonomies and automatic classification
  • Text mining and information extraction
  • Search and repository federation
Products
Enterprise Search

A powerful, feature-rich discovery system that provides unmatched power and flexibility to assist users in discovering and identifying critical nuggets of knowledge in large repositories.

Discovery Server uses concepts from Information Theory as well as the combinatorial characteristics of words to focus on the semantic content of documents. The product determines a document's important concepts by analyzing how words and phrases occur in that document and in other documents.

It also emphasizes semantic relationships between different words and phrases by evaluating how they are used in combination with each other in a document.

Benefits
  • Consolidates knowledge base- Livelink Discovery Server provides a centralized repository of information that is fully accessible via the web, a Windows client, or custom applications
  • Provides the ability to find information quickly and enables rapid response- Livelink Discovery Server sessions extend across multiple visits, allowing users to track queries, build on existing queries, and quickly and easily recall information from earlier visits
  • Protects document design- Livelink Discovery Server automatically translates information that is in other formats into HTML to enabling you to deliver it easily on the Internet without reformatting
  • Analyses data sources- Using Concept mining, name extraction (both organizations and names), and document clustering assists an administrator/user in better understanding the content of the data sources. It helps present the data using multiple views based on the discovery process
